Be That Person

It is crazy to think that we, that YOU, have the ability to change a person’s life for the better – that a single individual can start a chain reaction of Positivity! As I continue to live through all the hurdles and excitement that life has to offer, I always keep in mind my motto I stand by: When you inspire one, you inspire all. Let me explain what I mean.

Being that person can mean many things, but for me it is about being a leader, a person who can be a mentor, motivator, a friend or even just an active listener. To be a leader does not require 10K followers on Instagram nor does it always mean being a public figure and influencing hundreds of people. A leader just has to start with one. If you help just one person, inspire that one friend, YOU can make all the difference in the world. It is like tossing a pebble in the water – right when the pebble hits the surface of the water it makes an impact creating a ripple effect. I like to think that when we give our time to help one another we leave a positive mark on each other and that kindness is then shared amongst more and more people.

Here are my Top 3 Stepping Stones to spread Positivity:

  1. Start with You

To be a role model is to lead with integrity but first, to care for yourself before helping others. If you have piles of work that you need to complete or are faced with a challenge take a moment and just breathe. Plan out your priorities and do one thing at a time. If you feel like you need a break, take it. Go for a short walk and refresh your mind. Do what you need to do in order to get the work done without jeopardizing your mental well-being. Trust me, you will thank me later!

  1. Be Present

I cannot stress enough how important it is to actively listen and engage in conversation. Hearing and listening are two completely separate actions. When you take the time to actually understand other people you build stronger relationships and may even gain a whole new perspective on different subjects. So I challenge you to try and put your phones away during meetings and make eye contact with the person who is talking or engage in discussions with your team or colleagues. Simply be present for those who just need someone to listen.

  1. Support and Care

Caring goes a long way. Do something because you genuinely want to, not because you are told to do it. When you show genuine interest in others they take notice. Be there to encourage them, to challenge them and to help them reach their goals.
